Typhoon Roke Eyes Japanese Mainland

Only 2 weeks after Typhoon Talas wreaked havoc across parts of Japan, authorities in the Chūbu, Kantō and Kansai regions of Honshu – Japan’s largest and most densely populated island, have advised over 350,000 residents to evacuate their homes ahead of Typhoon Roke which is expected to make landfall early tomorrow morning (GMT).

As of 2100 UTC tonight, Roke was centered N32°25′ /E135°20′ and moving northeastwards at 18kts with mean wind speeds of up to 90kts ( 167km/ph /104mph) close to the eye wall. Although it is expected to weaken slightly over the next 18/24hrs, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned that mean wind speeds of up to 85 kts ( 157km/ph) will still affect coastal regions as the storm nears Chūbu Region’s southern coastline.
